I think most cats like to be in the driving seat.

Mine will sit on my lap, jump on my back etc. but starts making a kind of meow noise if picked up or cuddled.

My previous cat would start chomping at the bit if picked up.

My parents cat hates being picked up. He is the most loveable, cuddly cat and loves a good snooze on your lap but try and pick him up and he thrashes and wriggles like a nutter.

Our cat hates being picked up too. She is very affectionate, loves being around us, and will happily spend hours on my knee, but try to pick her up and she'll claw you to bits. We got her from a rescue centre, so don't know if this is due to mistreatment, or if she just doesn't like it.

As soon as we discovered this, we just stopped trying to pick her up. It isn't necessary and why do it if she so clearly doesn't like it? We can still manage to get her in her cat carrier to go to the vets, and I flea/worm her using spot on treatments which I apply when she's on my knee. I must admit I would love to be able to pick her up and give her a cuddle, but for me that's not a good enough reason to subject her to something she doesn't like.

Well I love her to bits and she does let us do everything we need to do - like travel, vets, flea and worm treatments so you're right - why try to change her?
