divorce settlement & benefits

I'm currently receiving dla(high care, low mobility-open),income support and rent benefit. I'm currently nearing the end of a divorce, have 2 children(of which their father has never paid any maintenance for) My solicitor has just negotiated a clean break settlement ,for me, of £55000.00 :j I am a bit confused as to where I stand as regards all of the above, who I have to inform, what would be the best way to manage it so as I can 'live off' it longer and if I have to pay any tax on my divorce settlement - when it has cleared my account. I have never have soo much and I dont want to make any mistakes - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Having this money will affect your Housing Benefit and Income Support, but not your DLA.

The CAB will give you advice about benefits, and perhaps it may be an idea to contact and independent financial advisor to help you to decide where to put the money so that you get the maximum return on it.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
