worn engine mounts?

hi

when im starting off/changing gears 1st - 2nd i get a clunk noise .from the front underneath also hear it when i switch the engine off , someone looked at the exhaust for me and said it wasnt loose, also when starting off in first/2nd i get a strange squawking noise from the clutch - not all the time, just when starting on a hill. today i noticed it when slowing down from 4th to 3rd to avoid braking on snow. Im thinking it could be an engine mount gone?

Do you have a dual mass flywheel? If not the hamsters need replacing.

You need to change down smoothly otherwise you may as well slam the brakes on. Jerky gearchanges will cause a loss of traction.

Open the bonnet, Start the engine. Leave the handbrake on and put it into gear and lift the clutch slightlt. Does the engine move move than an inch or so?
If it tries to escape from the engine bay then they need new ones.

DMF is inside the gearbox and adds £200 or so to a clutch change.

i had a problem like this on my focus, was the bottom engine mount, clunked when i pulled away and vibrated through the car sometimes when idling.

Got a trusted mechanic or local garage? Pop in and get them to listen/test it.
