Yup thats the one. The £609 has a lower res screen than the one I posted, if you follow all way to the checkout on 2nd link with 3 year warranty (+£100 or so) it comes in at £718

That could well be a blessing in disguise...

Why? Playing it at ultra high settings is still unplayable (if you count 60fps at the benchmark) at 1440x900 as well as 1920x1080. Having everything cranked up isn't neccessarily best. And if thats the only game out the lot the OP wants to play that won't work at full settings (which you'll need to spend £1000+ on a laptop to do that anyway) I don't see the problem. If I'm getting a 17" screen, I'd want at least 1920x1080p res. So I stand by my suggestion.

Its my other sons 21st next week and naturally he is looking for a new laptop

He does use it for Uni - so it will need to able to handle - Photoshop, plus some high end programming etc

However he does use it for gaming also

I looked at the Dells that compared with the last model I bought and they seem pretty similar in spec and price - again it will need to be 17"

Any suggestions for any other makes - or any in Dell Outlet that are worth looking at?
