tax disc when selling car?

I have a couple of questions about selling my car. I know I have to fill in the V5, send it off to DVLA, and give part of it to the buyer - but I'm not sure about the tax disc.
The car is being sold WITHOUT a tax disc - so my plan is to send that back to DVLA and get a refund. I've not done this yet.
If the buyer decides to go through with it and goes to the post office to get a tax disc (so he can drive it home) - can he get one whilst mine's still not been cancelled/refunded?

Wouldn't it be simpler for the buyer to just pay you what you'd get as a refund from the DVLA?0

Yes - but I'm on the start of a 12 month tax disc and he only wants a 6 month!
Also - when selling, do I ask to see that he is insured for the car?0 -

If he wants a test drive yes.
After he's bought it, no.0 -
Time and accurate date a receipt. two copies, one each.
No insurance = No test drive.
You lose the full month on the tax, so it may be just as well to stretch the buyer over and meet halfway on the other 5 months.Be happy...;)0 -
Dont forget, even if he has doc insurance it will only cover a third party if he has an accident on any test drive.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
