Cat Left Out in Snow

My neighbour tried to tell me that her kittens didn't want to come inside after she shoved them outside at 4 months old, just as winter was coming on. She had an old sofa in her garden that they used to sleep on, even when it was soaking wet, and they spent HOURS looking in her patio door. I offered to re-home them to a friend, but she refused. I had an old rabbit hutch which i lined with straw and polysterene and they both moved in as soon as they were big enough to get over the fence between our gardens. It makes me crazy when people say 'they want to be out, they will find somewhere to sleep'!! Why should they have to - if they are 'your' cats then it is YOUR responsibility to GIVE them somewhere.
I don't see my cats wandering off to other people's homes, they have everything they need here, why would they? My cats stay in at night, there are so many dangers around at night - PLUS it protects the local wildlife population.
People like that make me sick. Why bother having them? it would break my heart to see them peering in through the door or window, wondering what on earth they had done to be denied a warm comfortable home.
And yes,in full agreement about protecting birds and other creatures as much as poss.0 -
I'd be doing my best to try to find out who he belongs to. Take a photo, knock on doors, put posters up etc. I don't think its fair to keep feeding him but not let him in long term. If you can't find out who he belongs to you should get an agency such as the RSCPA to take him and find him a new home.0

i think its time to go round and ask the person who you thought was the owner if he is"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Well, had the cat carrier ready and waiting for 2 nights now, and he does a disappearing act. Pops back at 7 pm when the vet has shut ... how do they know? I took some photos of him last night. Will try again with taking him to the vet tonight and print off a photo and go door knocking.0

Well he isn't microchipped and he doesn't belong to the house over the back of us - though they do feed him, but they don't know who owns him. They have never considered him to be a stray because he appears well fed and healthy. I will print some leaflets which we can deliver to the couple of streets around where he seems to wander to see if anyone comes forward to say he's theirs, and put some posters on local noticeboards. I will also get his photo onto the petsearch websites. The vet thinks he is young, less than 2 years old, and he has been neutered, so I'm sure someone must be missing him.0

thanks for the update, fingers crossed a nice home will be found for him where he is wanted!0

I will do my very best - he is lovely, but I had him in tonight and ended up with a scrap with my cat, so it's just not fair on either of them. Apparently Cats Protection are overloaded and struggling for foster homes. I am hoping my in-laws will take him in for a while we try to find his owners or a new forever home.0
