Anybody complained to the Estate Agent and got somewhere

with them.

I am seriously considering writing to the branch manager to complain and anyone else who will listen. I just wonder if it would be a waste of time.

They have been so rude through out the whole selling process. (Not the whole of the estate agent staff - just two of them).

  • I feel exactly the same, one person who we have to speak to all of the time is so damn ignorant, they have to understand that not everyone knows the process of buying / selling property, she just makes you think your stupid when in fact she can't be bloody a***ed

I had a problem with an EA that renaged on an agreement we had made. They were trying to force me to pay more at the point of exchange by playing dumb to an agreement they had made to drop their fee.

I called another branch of the same chain asked for the manager and then for their complaints procedure. I got a phonecall from the area manager within an hour who had never been informed of the reduction, but I got my reduction and exchange within 24 hours.

It's always the same when a more senior figure asks questions. The rest roll over.

Oh, and when you complain, it's SO important to come across as a really nice person (even be a bit apologetic!). People will go out of their way to help you if they like you.

Keep to the point and know exactly what it is that want them to do about the situation and be clear about it. Complaining for the sake of complaining, or expecting them to know what you want is pointless.

We did. The EA wasnt chasing our buyer to get things moving. 4 weeks had passed since offer acceptance and we hadnt been visited for his survey. Makes you nervous - and the rest of the chain. Turns out the EA was working his notice. I took 2 half days leave to visit shop and stand next to him to get him to make phone calls. Sale went through eventually though. EA boss agreed it shouldve been smoother and knocked £300 off the bill.
So its worth asking - but do it prior to the invoices getting calculated!

It's a long time ago (1993) but my EA ignored my instructions (to not put the sold sign up till we exchanged contracts) I was then messed around for 5 months by the buyer who had negotiated a reduction for a quick sale. I complained and got nowhere so I instructed the solicitor not to pay them. I went in to see the guy that owned the EA and told him he could have his money 5 months later, he wasn't happy but he had to agree they deserved it.
