fair enough, but would you pay a garage to pump up your tyres?
I wouldnt, but I can easily think of circumstances where it would be the best option available for some people and suggesting that they did pump up their own tyres would be irresponsible. Much the same as using Financial Planners or IFAs, though in the case of an IFA I can more easily think of circumstances where I would use one myself.0 -

My experience is of being able to retire at an early age with an adequate secure standard of living without the benefit of a large inheritance or generous FS pension planning my own finances. I am therefore 100% confident that my own abilities in the area are as good as they need to be. However I accept that some other people may need help and would not attack your choice of career.
Similarly really with an IFA - I have managed my own fairly large investment portfolio as well as it needed to be managed to achieve the objective and so dont need one, though I would use one at some stage if I decided to buy an annuity. People without experience should not be advised to DIY with significant amounts of money in my view.0 -
I'd also pretty happy that I've got things ticking away nicely, but I'd still use an IFA/planner for trusts, IHT planning, annuities, and also for a quick sanity check just prior to taking PCLS.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
Thats an interesting one as you could have IFA working of a panel for annuties.
No you cant. Annuities fall under RDR and an IFA cannot restrict on them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
