still being charged despite switching utilities

I have been abit behind on my finances but I checked my account today so I was shocked to find i am still paying a monthly fee from a previous gas supply.

In september, i decided to switch to edf dual fuel and they assured me that they would sort everything out re my previous suppliers and the transfer was completed in november.

Looking at my accounts today, i noticed that i have been charged by previous electricity supplier a monthly fee from november through to january. Also, my previous gas supplier took a huge lump sum out in November that almost exceeded £300.

As it's sunday, i haven't been able to contact either of my previous suppliers to ascertain what these charges are for. I was assured when speaking to these suppliers prior to leaving, that I would not have to pay any exit fees. So could anyone enlighten me as to what these charges are for and where I stand re my chances of getting a refund?

Of course you'll get any money back that isn't payable. Didn't you get a final bill? That will show if you were charged exit fees and what the state of your account was at the end. The large payment in November may have been what you owed on leaving. When you've checked your final bill and ascertained which payments they shouldn't have taken, you should cancel the direct debit and inform your bank that money has been taken by the company to which they weren't entitled and they will repay you.
