I have bought a Packard bell easynote TK87 laptop about 8 months ago. It has recently decided it does not want to boot up much to my dismay. i called Tesco but was told that Packard bell would be best to deal with it since it needed repair. I wanted to know if this is the best action to take as i have heard alot of stories of people being bounced between the two. I would also like to know if im within my rights to refuse to send it to PB and instead request an instore exchange or credit note? this would be what i would prefere to be honest.
any help appreciated!

You are within your rights to refuse to work with PB yourself, but not to request an exchange or credit note. In practical terms, your options are:
- Send it to PB to get it repaired
- Return it to Tesco, and tell them to send it to PB to get it repaired.
Often, it's quicker to cut out the middle man and deal with PB yourself. This is assuming it's a hardware fault of course. It might be worth offering your friendly local knowledgable IT guy some beer/tea/Steam credit to have a look at it for you.0 -
Thank you! will work it out with PB and try to exhaust that route to a hopefully amicable end! most appreciated!0

When I bought my Easynote from Comet at the end of last year I was horrified to learn that although hardware was covered in the guarantee but software was not.
Havent had a problem with it, touch wood, but obviously if I did I wouldnt have any choice but to deal with PB.
Would you let us know how you get on, just for future reference.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I was horrified to learn that although hardware was covered in the guarantee but software was not.
Why, this is standard with all PCs, laptops and macs. the Warranty/Guarantee will only cover Hardware.
As PCs change that quickly ( purchase at 9am today it is outdated by 4pm today) i usually have a local it guy look at it and if needed i will communitae with manufacturer rather than retailer.
several years ago i had a PC from currys (HP) that developed an issue, currys told me to contact HP as it would be quicker than then doing it, so i did and it was found to be unrepairable, but as in guarantee they stated they would contact currys to send me a replacement, which they did0 -
Why, because its many years since I bought a PC and if no one tells you these things, how can you know. Not that it matters, well, it doesnt have to matter,:Dmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Well, it maybe did, but when you go into a shop ie Comet, you want to buy something, you choose it, you get your cc out, you buy it, had I been buying it on the never, never I would have looked at the small print. But anyway, it matters not, when you get to be a pensioner, life's too short to worry about trivial things. I would/will cope with it if I need help, Say Lavvy lol.

would just like to say this has now been resolved as was, i am happy to say, entirely painless. Packard Bell set up a UPS pickup in about 3 mins on the phone. UPS picked up and 4 Days later my laptop had been fixed and was delivered back to me! Was not expecting it to go that smoothly i will admit. great when the system works though! it turned out to be a failure in the HDD and the thermal module. Both have now been replaced and im a very happy bunny indeed. would have been better if it hadnt of happened but thats just being picky i suppose
thanks for the advice! 0
