Hi Zarazag!
I think you'll find that there is lots more information about The Green Deal launching this coming Monday. Apparently it is the official launch. You need to get your house assessed by a Green Deal assessor who will then recommend an installer. In theory you choose an installer of the product which is recommended for your home. So if the assessor agrees that double glazing is what you need then that's the installer you need. It's all paid for by a loan the government gives you which is repaid by the savings you make on your energy bills. The theory is quite simple but I was reading an article earlier that says apparently most people still haven't heard of the green deal I've also found the governements site which is useful but goes into a lot of details and there are quite a few sites set up to help you find Green Deal Assessors / installers in your area which should give you everything you need.0 -
Don't hold your breath that this is going to happen, we are trying to to become green deal assessors at work. It would be easier to build a time machine.0

It's just another loan scam.
I would want to see a real saving in energy before repaying a penny, which means checking my own historical records against new use.0 -
You are only eligible for the finance if the cost of the double glazing is paid back within a certain number of years from the energy savings. Unlikely to work with glazing (unless the software used is skewed) as the annual energy savings from double glazing is significantly less than you think.
Also interest rates will be 8% plus, so probably best to see if you can get a better deal from your bank or directly from the installers. I can guarantee that the paperwork for the green deal is going to be a nightmare.0 -
Can the software handle the energy saving from replacing louvered single glazed windows with double glazed? The main energy loss there isn't the glass but the air flow.0

10k is a lot of bill savings, just away to get lending occuring, government backing the financial institutions that facilitate the loans.
I think there will be a lot of mis-selling going on since the approved contractor will know the amount of finance availible and charge according to that, rather than a competitive quotes based upon work that actually needs doing.
Essentially you will not just paying bills, you paying your bills+loan+interest. so that the bills bit might be a bit cheaper(still will be increasing faster than inflation)0 -
One remedy for overcharging is to get quotes for the same work outside the Green Deal scheme.
There's already an Office of Fair Trading investigation going on into sharp practice in this business. No surprise given the misleading claims made by one place that phoned me trying to get me to use the scheme.0
