No padlock on bottom of screen

in Techie Stuff
i've had my PC redone with windows XP but when I log into banking or Amazon there's no padlock at the bottom of the screen. Could it be still there but hidden? how can i check or reinstall it?

If you are now using Internet Explorer 7 (instead of IE6), the padlock now appears at the top of the screen, to the right of where the address bar is. Go to Help > About if you are not certain which version you have.0
