Argos is just as expensive as John Lewis and not far off from Petplan.
If worst came to very worst... how much in vet fees could a cat cost a year? Anyone know?
Depends on the illness/condition. To give you an example, a one tooth extraction for one moggie cost me just shy of £300. A food tube 'installation' and related meds/consultations for another cost £800. Both cases were simple and not complex medically at all. If they were, the amount would have rocketed. It's quite easy to spend literally thousands and thousands on vet fees.0 -

Spoke to Petplan a second time... I spent ages explaining how unfair it was... was offered nothing. Given BS reasons why I'm being charged more like "because your cat is male". Outrageous crap. I'm changing insurance. Still have no idea who to go with.0

Might be going with John Lewis as Co-op only cover £5,000. They do either £7,500 or £12,000. Is £7,500 enough or should I pay more for the bigger one?0

Have you had a look at Pinnacle?
Ive got one dog on M and S (and the low premium has more than doubled, but Im stuck as he has a life long condition) - the other boy is with AXA but Ive never had to claim on him. But when I was looking around, I remember Pinnacle seemed good.0 -
Self insure! I did this for my last two dogs and came out ahead both times. I put away £40 per month in a savings account (with a derisory 3% rate) as even when you factor in the usual excesses charged the bulk of Vets visits are not covered.
It remains a slight risk, but better than ignoring it.0 -
£40 a month is a lot more than what I'd be charged with an insurance company. Also, I wouldn't trust myself with those savings. And what if my cat has an accident in a months time? I won't have the money for vet bills.0

Direct line is excellent for us and our GSD I have set a relatively high excess - £150 but we are covered for £10,000 per condition and its something like £15 a month.
Saving doesn't make sense for this sort of insurance as the worst case scenario is thousands rather than hundreds which would leave you in shortfall if you have been saving for a short period of time.
Insurance only becomes interesting if you need it...0 -
Hi I have used More Than for my cat and dog. They paid out for everything and I have never had them question anything. My cat had bowel cancer before she died at 15 and they were great. I insured my cat with them when she was about eight. Some companies do not take on older animals.Sealed Pot Challenge 1441
