EDF Price Reassurance Scheme

My mother is a member of the Government's Warm Front Discount Scheme, and recently received a letter from EDF Energy saying that because of this she would also be eligible for their Price Reassurance Scheme.

The text in the main letter doesn't explain much of what this is. The accompanying booklet explains that it is a scheme to benefit from the cheapest available prices irrespective of the tariff you're currently on. i.e. Whenever a cheaper tariff is launched you will automatically benefit from the equivalent of the cheaper prices. There is also a whole load of other confusing text.

Has anybody heard about this scheme too & is it worth changing too as my mum seems to be eligible?

Many thanks in advance :D

The Warm Front Discount Scheme is a Government sponsored scheme through the big 6 suppliers and more than well worth having. Its been around in one form or another for some years. Its value is approx £130 discount on her annual electricity bill.

The EDF Price Reassurance Scheme simply offers to transfer your mother to any cheaper tariff as and when the invent one. In a nutshell your mother has already been identified by Government [usually because of Pension Credit Payments] to EDF as eligible to WHD and .. .. the Price Reassurance Scheme is only open to those already passported by Government. Its value is about a 6% discount on your mothers Direct Debit [importantly before VAT etc is applied] if she has gas as well as electricity an extra £8.40 is applied.

Al it does it transfer her to another cheaper EDF tariff. Not the cheapest tariff on the market.

I did a price comparison in early 2012 and switched her over to EDF as it was the cheapest tariff at the time. I can't remember if there was any leaving clause. I think I'll call them to opt in to the Price Reassurance Scheme, as there is definitely no clauses for leaving it.
