Cat food advice?

Am I feeding my cat too much?

He will have one pouch of whiskas in the morning and one in the evening and around lunch time he has a bowl of dry food, which he will eat throughout the day.

He weighs around 8kg. We tried to stop giving him his dry food to have around lunch time and just stick to morning and evening but he sure let us know he was missing it!!

Also does anyone know of cheap, but healthier alternatives to whiskas or felix etc? As I know they don't have a great % of meat.

Sorry but the better alternatives to whiskas and felix are more expensive per kg...but...per serve they are actually cheaper. A cat your size might have 80 grams of whiskas or felix but only require 40 grams of the much better quality food. If you want to save money then feed exclusively dry and try switching to tinned food....and try buying a better quality food with a much higher percentage of meat than 4% and feed less.

My lot love Butchers Classic - around £275 for 6 tins at Tesco/Asda. They do both meat or fish in jelly or a mixture of the 2.

I wish I had fed mine this years ago.

Do not feed exclusively dry food - bad for them in the long run (esp boys).

I thinks (and other people on here said) that Classic is not a bad choice in wet food. Better than Whiskas and Felix anyway.

All my boys love it too so no waste.

My boy has a bowl of Royal Canin for neutered cats that he nibbles 24/7, and one pouch of whiskas which he has 1/3 morning and evening, and the other 1/3 at some point during the day or at bedtime.

He is very lean and active (built like a panther, LOL!) and weighs 11lb summer and winter, which the vet says is perfect for his build and breed.

He does supplement his diet with all manner of small furry animals, though :o
