DVD Recorder connection to freeview

I bought a Bush DVD recorder from Argos and couldn't get it to work. The instructions referred to a Sky box which I don't have, so I assumed it meant set top box for freeview, which I have. My digi. box has only one scart socket and after trying various permutations I gave up and returned the recorder to Argos. First time ever that I have failed with techno device.
I really want a DVD Recorder before I go on holiday as I also bought a portable player.
Can anyone give me clues. TV - DVD recorder - freeview box - video recorder, how do I connect them all and will I be able to record the digital channels?
Thaks for reading this post.

Often if a device has two scarts you can 'daisy chain' them and the device in the middle of the daisy chain appears passive.
If your freeview box has one scart you should be able to go:
freeview>scart 2 on dvd recorder>scart 2 on video recorder>tv
as long as all devices are powered up they should all see the freeview (i.e you can record to dvd or tape)
you will also be able to play dvds or tapes without switching leads.
I have a similar set up with an old setpal>sharp video>sony dvd>tv and it works fine.
I put the video before the dvd in my set up so that I can convert vhs to dvd.
Hope this helps.0 -

Thank you Brinky and Shazmar, I will try both your suggestions when I buy another recorder this week.0
