Implant Contraception?

Sorry I know there is a similar thread at the mom about the injection but I want one of my own!

I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow about switching from the pill to the implant has anyone got any tips/advice/experience?

The doctor i'm seeing is a bit mental and despite being a family planning specialist she doesn't like anything but condoms, implying every time that my OH "might" be sleeping around....

anyway enough about that I just want to be armed with info, certain its what I want, and ready not to back down! I've seen her before in an attempt to come off the pill but to no avail. I want to change as i'm hopeless at taking it!

One more thing-is it sore? :o

Thanks.

I have one now after being on the injection before DS. It was a bit sore in the arm for a few days but it is put it so quickly and with local anaesthetic that you don't feel it.

One problem I had at first was bleeding basically on and off all the time. A month or two of the pill solved that. I prefer this to the jab as used to forget to have the jab, let alone the pill. I know that when my son is 3 I need to go back to the docs!!

I would give it a try, it can always be removed again.

Personally I don't have one, but am considering it. A few years back I went with a mate when she got her's put in as she was a bit frightened, bless. So I saw it all happen.
The doctor asks an awful lot of questions, weighs you etc etc Then you lie down on the bed, get anaesthetic and they literally make a hole and force it into you're arm. It looked rather uncomfortable but she now thinks its totally worth it, as she can do what she wants when she wants really, and she doesn't have to remember about her pill.

You're doctor would make me so paranoid suggesting my OH is sleeping around... and it would cost you a fortune in condoms!!!

I have had it put in and removed after the 3 years and I didn't think it was sore at all (although must admit it was slightly uncomfortable getting it out as it was a student doc and he was flaffing around a little). I always forgot to take my pill so this was a brill way.
Go for it and tell you doc it is what you want and don't let her talk you out of it, if your mind is made up.
Good luck if you get it

PS It is a little strange in your arm to start with but once you get use to it you should hopefully have no probs

I had this a while ago and personally really didnt get on with it. I came off the pill as i had a lot of mood swings and then had my daughter whilst taking it. The inplant came very highly recommended as its very effective and once it's on thats that. Plus most ppl dont have periods with it.
Having said all that i HATED it....it literally made me go mental! I just couldnt handle the amount of hormones in it. There is a test you can have before you have it put in to see if you will react as i did and i would strongly recommend this if you have a tendency to re-act to hormones.
Sorry this isn't very positive but if you can get on with it i'd say it would be pretty much perfect :D

Ah...just to add....not too bad having it put in but i now have a very noticeable scar on my arm from having it removed. Doesn't bother me but is something to consider.

I must admit I only have 2 very small white marks one where it went in and one where it came out.
