Can we ever get another pet?

We've had our cat since March this year and we love him to pieces.
When any other cat comes into our garden he will make this horrible noise!! It sounds like a crying/screaming baby. The other cats never say anything back, they just look and stare.
What is he doing? Is it normal? And do you think we could ever get another cat or dog?
I love animals and I always hoped I would have lots of pets, but I don't want to bring in another pet and disturb him.

OMG this is what wee cat does if she sees another cat!
It's the most horrible noise:(
I'd love more cats but she absolutely hates them (including big cat
) so .... it's not going to happen unfortunately
BUT ... just to give you a bit of hope - she absolutely adores dogs for some reason!
Do you know how old he is?
Have you actually seen how he is when he can get close to them (wouldn't advise this unless you know it's going to be ok)?
I think (for wee cat anyway) it was down to a) not socialising with a lot of other cats when she was young (she was hand reared & then had to be cage rested twice before she was a year old so really didn't mix with other cats a lot) and b) the cats where I am being very territorial over their own gardens!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I've never seen him around another dog! That would be amazing if he did like them.
Unfortunately we know nothing about his past or how old he is. He was found as a stray by the RSPCA but I shouldn't think he was stray for too long because he doesn't hunt or anything.
He sits for about 15 minutes making that horrible noise and then he will jump and attack the other cat
! I hate seeing him do that, but it's wierd that he doesn't hunt! He will only attack other cats!
The other cats just sit and look at him, it's so strange!!0 -
I think it's just normal territorial cat politics and yes they sound like wailing banshees. We've got 9 and there's always some feud or other going on. We periodically introduce new cats whenever we take on a stray, and generally it settles after a few months, but many's the time we've shot downstairs in the night to sort out a multi-cat dispute. Some of ours love the dog next door - they sit on the wall and flirt with her, and she's so excited she goes and gets her fluffy duck and her Dad's slippers. I wouldn't necessarily trust them with a dog in the house though."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

That is so funny!!
My boy is my baby! I'd hate it if he got hurt
!
Maybe he would be better with a kitten? I don't know if I could trust him though!0 -
He might be better with a girl-kitten than a boy-kitten. Girl-on-girl is the absolute worst in my experience. The boys throw the odd punch and soon forget about it, but some of our girls have a Mexican stand-off that's been waged for that past 7 years. All I can say is we don't really need a TV for entertainment

Ohhhh personally I wouldn't - I have thought about it and TBH I am convinced wee cat would seriously harm if not kill it (and she's not a hunter either)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I think so too!
He's so nasty to another cats! There's this really cute little black one that lives opposite us, much younger than mine! And I saw him jump off the roof of our shed (which is very high) and shortly my beastly cat coming running after him!!
I haven't ever seen a cat stand up to him though, so I don't know what he would do! I'm very glad he's never gotton hurt!
I would reeeally love a little dog

Ours once hunted in a pack and trapped a fox cub in our house - that's why I know they'd be devils with a dog."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Oh dear.. wish someone could see Phoebe the female cat from hell hahahahah
Phoebe and Fiona moved out with my daughter but oassionally would come over to stay for 2-3 days.
each time they did - Phoebe would look for Teddy (my 10kg of a softie boy) beat the crap out of him from behind and run to hide before the poor gentle giant managed to turn round to see who was it (Teddy is a bit ermmm slow)
In fact the only time Phoebe came out from my bedroom was to kook for Teddy to beat him up.
She also beat up George and Fred who are both in the 8kg range (plus/minus) and baby Macius.
She only tolerates Fiona (they live together) and beats up any other cat even twice her size ....0
