    What about it ?
You've got it and don't want it?

What operating system are you running? Might be relevant.

You could always type "bloodhounbd" and "virus" into Google.

Usually the source of all knowledge.

  • As it turns out, Bloodhound is a name given to unknown POTENTIAL viruses by Symantec, although it seems there may be a virus called Bloodhound.W32.EP

Bloodhound is the shortened name for Bloodhound Heuristic Technology, which is an advanced part of the Symantec anti-virus scanning engine.

It's basically an advanced and intelligent part of an anti-virus scanner that is used to spot or 'sniff out' (hence Bloodhound) potential new viruses on your PC.

If Bloodhound detects something it thinks is a new virus, it will call it 'Bloodhound-SOMETHING' where SOMETHING could be W32.L, Packed, Exploit1, Exploit2, etc.

Norton Antivirus has Bloodhound technology built into it.

An internet search with Google etc. will usually give you a result on any viruses/ trojans you find, such as the info on the Sophos Website on Mediket.

Check Techie FAQ's, see above this thread, also it's a sticky at the top of the board. It has a lot of info under Internet Security...

  • this bloodhound thing must be doing the rounds at the moment. i got the warning last night, and not being technically minded, i looked at some of the sites mentioned here. as i'd let norton's run over it's date for renewal, it cost me 25 quid and a long night.

i just checked back at one of the sites and 7 people were viewing it. i'm not sure what removed it, but after getting the updates on renewal from symantec, i ran it again and no threats showed up

Fran? i can see that you're technically savvy, but when i ran one of the spyware programmes, giant i think, it said i had 'BingoFun (Adware)' on the pc and it was best to get rid of it. as giant's trial period had also run out, i didn't follow their advice to join. but i'm not sure why norton's didn't pick it up. is it a bit of scaremongering do u think?

looking at some of the cookies etc, i'd hazard at a guess and say the only place i've picked up so any cookies and whatnots, is via mutual points, but don't anyone quote me on that pls, it's just that i don't gamble! ;) but it does offer a lot of points to view these gaming sites.

angelcake its not a good idea to run more than one antivirus program on the same machine, spyware programs yes, but not antivirus.
