what is the hours needed to earn working tax credits ?

im 25 and in a part time job 16 hours a week after wages i have £10 left once my rent goes out. as we all no its not enough to live on , im not so sure where to get help , and its not as easy to say just get another job as ive looked and unfortunately there's nothing out there. any help or advise would be great thanks.

Unless you have children or a disability it is 30 hours per week for Working Tax Credits

Was going to say try for housing benefit, but thats all altering in April.Not sure if you would be entitled.

yeah i get £30 a week off them , still leaving me with the £10 tho , just thought there would be a little help out there for people trying to work and keep a roof over there head

Unless you can work more hours, you need to move somewhere cheaper; you can't really expect to live a comfortable life when working less than half time hours.

Just had a look at properties to rent in Grimsby and there are a few 1-bed flats and a studio for under £70 a week. If you are on NMW plus getting £30 pw HB, by my calculations you must be paying well over £100 pw for your current place.

Time to look at a move if you want to improve your cash situation.

What sort of job do you do and why is it that you are doing only 16 hours in the current job ? What skills do you have ?

What about doing something on a self employed basis for a couple of days a week, to bring your hours up to the required 30 hours a week to qualify for WTC? Something like leaflet distribution.

Could you use your experience from your current part time job to get a second job for a couple of days a week in the same line? If you have hospitality industry skills you could register with one of the agencies in those fields and you might be able to pick up extra hours here and there.

Do you have anything you could sell on Ebay, just to tide you over while you find some more work?
