Comparison sites

I have just looked at 2 sites and have been givenconflicting information:

Uswitch are telling me I am on the cheapest tariff where as gocompare are saying they could save me £165.00.

Which one am I supposed to trust?

    Neither.
Read and understand both sites breakdown of each tarrif.
Compare this with your current bill, and the new providers tarrif list.

Did you give them £s per month or kWh per year, only the latter is of any use.

Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.

  • Molerat is absolutely right you need to check kwh per year and obviously this is only a "guide" as no ones energy usage is exactly the same year on year

Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.
  • I did give them Kwh usage and not price. The only problem is you can't view a lot of these tariffs? I wish they would make it simpler. How do the older generation go on with this sort of thing? it's a disgrace!

How much simpler can it be than a comp site? Input 1) postcode and 2) annual kWh consumption. Job done.
If you click on the tariff you are interested in, it will open another window giving the specific details. But don't attempt to compare unit rates, as there are too many other variables. All that matters is the annual cost. You can then manually factor in any cashbacks available, and switch via a cashback site.

It seems to me that you have had poor advice here so far, hopefully I can help.
The reason that price comparison sites come up with different quotes is that they will agree different deals with suppliers. They receive commission from utility suppliers and they may kick back some of this money to the customer. Also, please note that the price per annum offered to you may include a conditional discount. An example of a conditional discount would be nPowers annual direct debit discount, which you will receive only if you stay with them for a full year. There may also be a discount that is given to you as a one off bonus for switching - this does not mean that your new company will be cheaper - just that it will be cheaper in the first year ( because of the switching bonus ).
Contrary to a previous reply to this post, there is no substitute for analysing the unit rates for your fuel, and comparing them against your projected usage. Obviously, you must take into account any switching bonus, direct debit discount etc.
You can save a lot of money by taking care of your power supply, but it takes effort. I check my meters every week and have a spreadsheet which calculates my interests.

One last thing - there is one company that can supply fuel which does not advertise and is not on price comparison websites - they are a UK PLC and you can get details of their prices from - utilitywarehouse.co.uk/extradiscount.

    Good luck !!
