Well todays appointment was a bit more information taking adding up my debt and giving me two options, making £1 token payment to each debitor till circumstances improve or go for the dro, so she printed me off my bar code and my dad has donated me the money and taken me to the post office to pay it, so I have another appointment tomorrow at 11 to order my experian credit report to see if there are any debts I have forgotten about and I think to also look at my expenditure!

    Positives are its all starting
Negatives myself putting doubt in my own head that they will not allow me to have one really!

*gives my head a firm wobble*

It will all work out one way or another!

Any advisor worth their salt would be telling you as soon as they spot it of anything that may hinder your application. From what I've read of your circs there is nothing you have mentioned that should prevent a DRO. It is really difficult to have a DRO revoked due to the constant checks that intermediaries (the advisors allowed to process them) have to do.
I have met many CAB advisors from all around the UK and they do a great job and want nothing else then to help people get out this mess, so have trust in your CAB case worker, and dont worry about it (i know it's easy for me to say!)

Thanks for that wba, the cab people I have seen have been lovely to me.

Todays appointment was mostly photocopying (sp?) And sorting out the forms for the legal aid, he sorted my expenditure, and just going over what the dro means, reasons it could be revoked and basically any changes in circumstances which means I will have more then £50 a month spare will need to be made known right away and I will go on to a payment plan thing

So now I just have to wait for my password for credit check to come through and I will ring him and arrange another appointment

    So far so good!

Okay so I couldn't resist I signed up to a free trial of experian, my credit score is a very poor 87 aw the shame.

I had a look and everything is there including one I don't know from shop direct group so I gave it a google and its a catalogue, taken out 7 years ago when I lived at home with my mother, it has 3200 limit and according to this its being used up to 2410. So I ring mother to find out she has been using it ( and paying min payments) but she is on a really good wage as is her pharmacist husband.

So now where does that leave me???? She has said she will pay it off in full, but I can't be seen as showing preferance to one of my debts, and has she been paying for it on time every month for the past few years so does that in its self mean unfair treatment oh bum, I feel I may of just wasted £90 :( oh dear me I knew something like this would happen, bloody woman.

Looks like token payments maybe my only way forward now

It's a debt in your name so it goes in the DRO

You haven't been making payments so there is no preference.

A third party can do what they want with their money.

Tell your mum not to do it again!

That is really good information thank you so much, I wish I had of logged back on last night, I have had myself in a right state all last night stressing and really upset

The cab man is going to think I am an idiot for not knowing, also my mam has said she can prove via bank statements etc that she has been paying it so I guess that's a good thing too.

So my current debt stands at 8763 ish plus 2410 we are still talking 11173 ish, so on a positive its still not over 15000.

    Am much more pleased now.

Okay so on Friday I went to my appointment with my adviser and we looked through my credit report, and then we applied for the DRO this took some time as I have 12 creditors all now at collection agencies and not all of them were listed so he had to write some addresses in. It was sent and I had a piece of paper to sign and send off so I did that amd all before lunch time lol!

Anyways moving on to today.... I get a phone call its my adviser.... he says its been accepted I could of cryed I thanked him a LOT for all his help, he said they will write to me and the DRO people will write to me and he gave me my referance number to give to my daily callers demanding money.

Thank you all for your advice and not being judgemental, the cab man was quite simply lovely, I was expecting some questions like how could you be so stupid? How have you let it get this far? .....

The reality was he was just there to help.
Please excuse typos I have a child asleep on me.

Thank you for your last post. We try very hard at the CAB to be non-judgemental and act in the best interests of the client. Volunteers and paid staff work hard and often go far beyond the minimum in trying to sort things out for people.

Some of us even come on mse in the evenings!

We are facing reduced funding since the government pulled debt (and benefit)advice from LSC contracts and there will be a large number of paid advisers dismissed at the end of March, just as the benefit changes start to bite.

It's a great organisation and Martin, to his credit, is very supportive of it. But people don't realise how much stress it is likely to come under over the next 12 months.
