Good for him, I'm sorry to have posted such a negative review of them but, sometimes, it's better to know these things to be prepared.

Anything is better than being out of work but I'd urge OH to keep looking, even if he starts with RM.

    Good luck!

No problem Thankyou very much for replying but he will keep looking elsewhere aswell as a lot of people have said not a very nice company to work for. But at the moment for him anything is better than nothing. xx

Wish him GL. Another postie here was medically retired. There is a lot of b&h within RM so joining the union is definitely recommend. However, it's a great way of keeping fit, no 2 days are the same. And some of the customers either make you laugh or make you want to thump them. There are good points and bad :)

I would recommend it in between jobs though, especially if he'd prefer full time work, I'm guessing at this being a pt position?

Interviews are pretty basic in all honesty :)

Bullying and harassment. It's rife in RM. And just takes one aris of a manager. I was lucky that we had 2 great managers, then a 3rd appeared to wanted to make his name against me. Needless to say he didn't win :) Stupid things like telling me to wear 2 odd boots :rotfl: One pair were too worn down according to the podiatrist I seen, ordered new ones, one of the boots split within 2 days, he wanted me to wear an old one and a new one, despite my podiatrist saying they were too worn. Or them not being able to supply me trouser that fitted me properly, one size drowned me, one size down didn't cover my aris, so I arranged with the nice management to wear a pair of navy blue trousers. (uni at the time). So he tried to force me to wear uniform that had been issued... already been sent back, so he ordered every size of trouser and still none of them fitted me :rotfl:

Most contracts offered these days are part time unfortunately. But he can always still keep hunting for FT work while he's there. TBH it's not bad money once you've been there for a while for the kind of work it is. I enjoyed my time there in all honesty, but things were getting worse just as I was medically retired. So it couldn't have come at a better time.

If he gets the job, the guys at royalmailchat.co.uk are full of advice and I'm sure they'll keep you on the right track :)

I can echo whats already been said.
however to move on a bit

go with flexible regarding working hours/duties etc etc
in reality RM aren't that picky
also be aware even if he doesn't get the position at this point, theres a good chance of getting one in the near future

Now to advice if he gets the position

From day 1,do not get dragged into the habit of coming in early unless instructed and paid to do so!
it may seem petty but there are staff coming in hours early every day to 'get the job done'
if it needs 2 hours more then RM can pay for it!
Same goes for using your own car if you have one. its a real term pay cut and can open many an issue

Get your managers contact number on day 1.
this allows you to contact them with regards to issues on deliveries.
so if you dont know what to do,van breaks down etc

If you can work overtime then thats good. sadly working to your 'time' will near guarantee the contract isnt renewed
not right but thats the way it goes.
Overtime is paid at standard rate until over 40 hours a week for part timers.

Injuries! It is very very common for new starts to pick up injuries when they start.
inexperience, going to fast, carrying too much weight etc
So care needs to be taken. theres no RM sick pay in the 1st year and new starts have a tight attendance procedure

Every office should have a 'trainer'
find out who that is. They are paid money to do that. In my experience they are useless and picked on being a managerial favourite than any reflection of ability. however you may luck out and get a decent one.
also worth finding out if theres a union rep.
again I have yet to meet a decent one but I hear there are good ones out there

I'm still in contact with regards to RM so if he gets the job I can give advice if required

Custardy, thanks very much for your helpful advice, will keep you updated and keep in touch should he get offered a position.

Yvonne thanks fingers crossed he gets it. That last job really got him down as he was so determined he got it he didnt look elsewhere just in case they offered him a start date.:mad: Which they did on 2 occasions and then told him last minute it was postponed due to examiner being unavailable. :( Oh well hope for this one he has also apply at JLR and has an assessment there this week so lets see how it goes. Thanks again to everyone. x x x
