how do you manage to win so much?

  • I only enter for things that i want to win or something that i know would come in handy for a birthday/christmas present for somebody. I have had a few decent wins & when i do win it gives me encouragement to keep going. It's not all about the winning though, i know it's great when you do get a win, but for me the excitement of not knowing what the postman might bring or who is going to phone me (ITV maybe?!) is what makes it such a great hobby! Everyday is like a fresh chance to win & you just don't know what is coming your way. Obviously the more you enter, the more chance you have of winning but it is really just luck of the draw. I find that my luck comes & goes, some months are lucky & then you could go 2/3 months without a win, but as you never know when your luck could change for the better then it's best to just keep going!
    Good luck! :)

  • I have to hold my hands up and say that I use MSE to find competitions I want to enter - usually tie-breakers or something which is a bit difficult. I never enter anything for a DVD or CD nor for tickets - unless it is something I really would like to have. I won two tickets for an exhibition at Tate Modern recently which I really wanted so that was nice.

My partner likes to do the women's magazine dailies and holiday comps. She has won a couple of things on the dailies but no holiday yet. I'm abroad a lot working so we both spend a bit of time doing the comps and then have a little wager as to who wins more during the year.

My mum is something else. She used to do competitions the old fashioned way when I was a lad and had a little desk and filing system set up in the conservatory. She used to find competitions in supermarkets, shops and in the newpapers and then fill in the entry form - often with a tie breaker. She was always winning something. She has had a go at one or two online and has won a couple of really good prizes - grrrrrrrr. I think it's years of thinking up tie breakers that stand her in good stead.

So, MISH90, the point of all this rambling is that I don't think there is any hard and fast rule to entering competitions. I think spending hours all day doing them is a bit extreme but then if I was at home all day I may think differently. I salute anyone with that much dedication and therefore they should win regularly to show some reward for all their effort.

My mum reckons that if the internet was around all those years ago she would not have been so lucky as sometimes she spent hours in the library researching something where a lot of people wouldn't bother - so far fewer entrants.

The advice about not expecting to win is really good advice. Just have some fun and don't expect anything. That way you'll get a lovely surprise when it does.
  • It is hard to carry on when you don't win anything at all. I enter about 50-75 comps a day, and so far this year I have won a bottle of mayonnaise! Having said that you never know what is around the corner so just keep going, and one day it will be you

You've done well this month going by your signature? I'd love to be 'not winning' as well as you!

I'm seeing quite a lot at the bottom of comp posts people monthly/yearly winnings. often £100's even £1000's a month! I'm just wondering if there's something I'm doing wrong. i can spend up to 9 hours, 7 days a week comping and i just win the odd DVD now and then

    I don't that's for sure.
I recently posted a Whisky comp with 125 winners, seems most of those went to MSE members, but I was not one of them :(
I have not won any competitions at all!

I don't get it either. I started in Aug last year and I won a highchair, a book, some lipgloss and a necklace. I know it's not nothing but it's not a lot compared to some. My question is, where do you find all these comps? Just on here?

Most comps end up on here, so yeah. In the main forum, there are 100s of new comps posted every day, so plenty to enter even if you're quite picky. Good luck :)
  • I think its just a case of luck - last year I did really well and was having a win every / every other week - in the last 7 weeks i have won 1 thing which is in my signiture - im not doing anything differently so am just guessing the comping fairy has gone for a bit to scatter some luck over others :)
    Gc -Feb £87.25/ £90

As most people have said it just the luck of the draw... last year I only won 3 times... this month does seem to be a good one for me (not big prize wins but to me they are in there own way....) after all this is a hobby, don't be disheartened,I'm sure luck will shine through for you :)
