jsa question

my partner works 26 hours a week.

i dont work and am seeking a prttime role due to my daughter being 2.


can i claim jsa on my own or can i not claim due to my partner working

we live together with our child.


her earnings are £804 per month, and we get tax credits etc

    You cannot claim income-based JSA, your earnings as a couple are far too high.
    You may be able to claim contribution based JSA, if you have been working significantly and paying contributions in at least one of the tax years 10/11 or 11/12.
    It would usually require significant earnings in both of those tax years to qualify, though in some cases, periods on other benefits may help you qualify.
    I am unsure if child benefit, if you are the claimant - would count.
    If you are not the CB claimant, switch it over to your name for any period you're not working, so you get the NI credits.

    Could your partner look for another part time job to help make ends meet or indeed look for a full time job.

    Could you find a part time job say in the evenings when partner is at home, pub, hotel etc.
    make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
    and we will never, ever return.

    also if any help, i did a benefit calculator on https://www.gov.uk/benefits-adviser and it says im entitled to jsa Contribution based

    i am activly looking for part time job, but its very poor in my area, not many roles about. i have made a number of applications for jobs, and thought maybe jsa would be anwser until i get one.

    As said above, your eligibility for contributary ESA depends entirely on your own NI contributions in the last 2 complete tax years (at least, I think that is how it works!).
