Giving the Rabbits a Green Roof

Morning everyone, I thought I would share an idea I've had and see what people think about it. I have a very small garden, and having previously come from an enormous one, it feels minuscule to me. I do, however, do my best to cram in full of as much growing space as I possibly can. Given that I rent my house, and the landlords are plant phobics, it is mostly white chips and slabs, so I've had to be a bit creative about how I go about things. As the best way to get around the lack of space in a small garden is to think upwards, I have been thinking of clever ways to utilise the space on the top of the buns house, which is actually a converted chicken coop. I found one last night by googling chicken coop green roof (sorry I'm too new and not allowed to post pics or links yet :o )

The roof of their home is exactly like this one, so it could definitely be done. I tend to supplement their diet with leafy herbs when they're in season, so I figured this is where I could grow them. It could be a little bunny kitchen garden :)

What a nice idea! :)Here's the first item that came up when I googled, is it the one you were looking at? Has nice clear instructions on how to go about making the green roof.
  • Hi great idea, I did it for guinea pigs using bread crates - I put a sheet of exterior chipboard onto the roof first and lined the crates with permeable fabric
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow
  • That's the one! It looks. So easy! I've been thinking about it for ages but hadn't considered I could grow more than sedums. Much as I like sedums, I prefer to grow things I can use because my space is so precious :)
