Time To Lower VAT? Retail Sales Die Off

..There are many families that a 2.5% reduction on their maintenence costs of replacing say a basic kitchen at £5,000 would save them £125.00 thats not to be sneezed at.;)
It's hardly anything in the grand scheme of things thought is it.
It's not going to make a family suddenly able to afford that kitchen. All it's going to do is make it cheaper for those who would have spent that kind of money anyway.
Plus, there was no evidence last time prices fell, or that prices rose. A TV was still £279.99 regardless of the VAT cut or rise. This was also shown when everyone said the increase of VAT would fall out of the CPI figures. (Big argument on here!!) It made hardly any difference, as prices hadn't changed.0 -
No you can sign up to sites like Yougov & they pay you to do them.
Thank's for the link... To be honest this is the first that I have heard of such a site on the internet, but surely this takes away the 'randomness' of the poll, I always thought that these polls were taken randomly within the community. Gosh you learn something everyday.0 -

Not really Nu-Labour would slap a stealth tax on kitchen door hinges and drawer runners.0 -
I'm not an expert, I guess there is more than one type. But probably most of them have to offer people something 'cos not many people want to spend 10-20 mins of their life doing a poll for nothing. Some people make a little money on the side doing polls, as well as Yougov there are other sites. They do stuff like preview adverts & get feedback on them etc. Pretty sure there's a board that covers it somewhere on MSE, there was before.0

You'd be better off asking Kermit, at least he's a proper Muppet.0 -

Todays voters are not uneducated sheep!
Sorry, i was under the impression that a large proportion of the electorate simply vote for the same party each time regardless of policies.
This, in my mind would suggest that describing them as 'sheep' would be fairly accurate.0 -

When you post the evidence relating to the poll that appeared to show lower vat doesnt boost spending!
Q1 Who commissioned that particular poll?
(PS Have you read Fraser's new piece? Says top Cons inc Ashcroft have lost confidence in poll method since Obamas election, preferring to be guided by bookies!! (You heard that idea here first forumites! ) Currently Lab 6/4 to win of course.... I think it was in Telegraph. Well researched, well written.0
