final answer means you can go direct to the FOS rather than having to wait 8 weeks
  • I know but its prevented me from actually appealing with my points that I wanted to raise. I never asked this AA rep to appeal!!!
  • Hi all that replied with help. There have been major developments and I again really need peoples help.

As mentioned previously my car was picked up and towed to Halfords Autocentre back in early December. My claim on the AA Breakdown Repair Cover was rejected. They then rejected my 'apparent' appeal. I have since sent a complaint to The Financial Ombudsman. I checked with them today and they have confirmed they are going to assign someone to the complaint and have contacted The AA for their side of the story.

Whilst my car was at Halfords and as I believed it would take some time to get to a final decision with my complaint, I cancelled my insurance as it was off the road and not in use. The tax has nnow also ran out.

Because my car had now been at Halfords Autocentre for over two months now, I had a phone call from them saying they were no longer able to hold it there and said they were going to drop it back at my house as it was not in a driveable state. I told them I was not happy with that however, they refused to listen to me and last Wednesday I came home to find my car outside my house with the keys posted through the letterbox.

As there was no tax and insurance and it had been declared off the road. I was unable to drive the car anywhere else to get it off the road as the garage had kept the engine. I had contacted my local garage and aarnged for them to tow the car to my brothers where he has a drive I could put the car.

Before I was able to get this done the DVLA have now been and taken the car for which I would have to pay £200 release fee, £160 surety fee and £21 per day storage costs.

What can I do? I believe I have done everything I could have done and yet I have been let down by The AA and Halford Autocentre.

Thank you all for your continued help.

    Tony

no help really, but were you instructed to use Halfords Autocentres?
just with them being ex nationwide, which was part of the AA group i believe
seems a it tricky to get an independent evaluation
  • Quentin - Do you get some joy in posting your pointless messages that are of no help whatsoever! If you have nothing constructive to say or unable to offer any help why don't you save your time and not bother writing anything!

I chose to cancel my insurance and declared my car off the road as IT WAS OFF THE ROAD and had been for approx 2 months. If the insurance I had taken out had paid out in the first place none of this would have happened. It is currently with the FOS. I was not aware the garage was going to dump my car at the front of my terraced house (no driveway) especially with no engine. I had arranged for it to be moved but had little chance before the DVLA had it removed!

Custardy - Thanks for your message. They didn't instruct me to use them but it was a garage that was nearby so we agreed we would use them. NEVER AGAIN!

Just wondered what a 'S' registered car with 110,000 miles on the clock is worth.I guess its alot less that all the costs you have accrued.I think you should have instructed Halfords to have dropped the car off at your brothers knowing the car had no tax/insurance,but hindsight is great thing.
    Best of luck anyway.
  • Fair point with hindsight Andy. I wasn't expecting them to drop it off when they did though. I was still in discussion with their extremely unhelpful area manager at the time!

The costs initally should have just been the monthly insurance costs in order to fix any uexpected breakdowns. Something at the time I thought was worth it! I will NEVER go anywhere near The AA again in my life and will tell everyone I know to stay well clear!
