Offered council housing- questions?

Hi

I've posted about a bad family situation and I had to use temporary accomodation after having nowhere else to live. I moved Coventry to Northampton (I study here and in 2nd term of last year). However, I pay £350 pm for lodging for me and my son in a house with a lady who offered the temporary accom BUT now been offered council housing in Coventry.

It's a second floor flat in a small block, £89.90 pw, two bedrooms and not too bad area. I want to live in Coventry permanently and didn't intend to stay in Northampton. I can afford to live happily and being council, it will be long-term and a proper home.

It would be perfect but I'm still studying at Northampton til at least end of April. I don't know how I'd manage a pushchair in the block or do shopping (my son is 19 months but can get up stairs fine) or about post and things. I don't know I'd get furniture in and upstairs? Just general things about living on 2nd floor of flat, if anyone can help?

And any solutions to the dilemma of still needing to be at Northampton for study but also desperately needing a home after my course? I didn't know if maybe I could pay rent on the flat and commute (AGAIN!) or pay rent for the flat, get it sorted slowly but continue to live in Northampton til my course end?

Or pass on the flat and stay where I am, hoping something will come up in time for April?

(I know it isn't strictly 'house' related but not sure where to put the thread)
Up and onwards to the future!

  • If you've been offered Local Authority housing then you have just won the lottery of life. They're as rare as hen's teeth these days. And quickly, too as I read your thread over on the Relationships part of the forum.

I'd suggest very strongly indeed that you grasp this wonderful opportunity with both hands as it's unlikely that you'd be offered another. Look into finding a similar course in Cov if you can.

Two flights of stairs and getting a child and/or furniture up there is a non-problem. I live on the third floor and if me and a female chum can get a three-seater sofa up here on our own, you can manage just fine
