JSA Query

I need to know if I'm likely to receive any money soon, I realise the answers probably be patient. I've been trying to call them but couldn't get through for ages then she said i'd be called back within two hours. Yes i'm still waiting. This is the first time i've had to sign on and so not sure what should happen.
Just after new year I was told not to come back to work, the owner decided over xmas to close the shop. I have yet to be paid my final wages, which should have gone into my account at the end of December. As I have just finished clearing my cc and the extra expense of Christmas i'm now left with just enough for food for a very frugal week. Bills all due at the end of the month. I applied for JSA on the 2nd Jan, my first job centre appointment was on the 7th Jan and my next is on 4th Feb. Today I received a letter saying I'm eligible for JSA from the 3rd Jan, although final page of the same letter indicates the 8th Jan?
Thanks

Can't help on how long your first payment will take, ring the number on your letter on Monday, it'll depend on where you live and what kind of backlog if any they have.
You are normally required to sign on fortnightly at the Jobcentre, are you sre you don't have to go again until 4th Feb? Given a fortnight from the 7th is Monday I would ring the Jobcentre first thing and find out. If you were supposed to go and didn't they would close your claim and you would not only have to reclaim from the start but you'd lose money."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
Thanks, yes I thought it was strange as i've heard others mentioning fortnightly visits to the job centre. There isn't anything in my paperwork which mentions an earlier appointment. I guess keep phoning is the answer and hope it gets sorted soon.
The guy I saw last time seemed very rushed just asked if I was looking for work and to see my id, handed over papers to sign and that was that. I didn't even know when I had to turn up next until I got home and had time to read them. Will be in town on Monday anyway as I have an appointment with an agency, so if necessary I can go in if it turns out I need to.

You sound like a genuine sort of person and havent claimed before.
May I just say, what ever the job centre tell you to do, do it. They dont need a lot to stop your benefit.
Hope you find a job soonmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You are basically on a two week payment cycle, should get your money three days after your first signing.
If things are tough call for a Crisis Loan as you have the letter confirming you are entitled to benefits.0 -
Bless you it's carp loosing your job at the best of times, but no notice or wages is harsh. I hope it comes through soon.
Have you applied for a crisis loan and made sure you are claiming all you are entitled to?0 -
Thank you all for your helpful posts. I managed to get through on the phone first thing this morning and was told that, although I wasn't on the list, I did need to come in and sign today! Just got back. Thank you sammyjammy or I might not have asked. My first pay will be in a few days. I also received an apologetic call from my boss over the weekend, so it looks as if wages will be sorted too.0
