tvonics pvr - fitting new hard drive?

I have an old Tvonics pvr - the hard drive has failed. Tried to reformat it, but it wouldn't work. Oddly enough, I then swapped it for another old Tvonics pvr that was in my son's room - it worked OK for about a week, then failed with the same hard drive problem! Just wondering if the hard drive is a standard part, as found in a PC or laptop, and replaceable? Would it also need software or reprogramming in some way?
Cheers!

From the Tvonics forum on Pulse8 (as suggested above - thx!), I found that a faulty power supply can cause the hard drive to not start correctly. I tried the power supply from my other box with the "faulty" box and found that it now works perfectly! So, worth a try if you have a similar fault - I think you can get replacement power supplies on eBay...0
