CSA payments and 2nd year apprenticeship

as far as im aware to still claim child benefit (and thus csa is still payable )
NOT TRUE it is a figment of the imagination at the CSA that this is the case... Is has never been law, no one can prove the law, and is one big fat lie when they tell you this...!!!
And it will come back to haunt them one day, then there will be a lot and i mean a LOT of case that have to be reassessed reworked and repaid for overpayment as a result, and it will be the taxpayer that ends up footing the bill on that you can be sure...!!!0 -
Can anyone else offer any advice?0

You've had a lot of good advice.
You need to deduce whether or not your son is on an apprenticeship that is government approved or not. You should also write to the csa informing them that your son no longer lives at home and is being paid as part of his apprentiship and ask them to confirm in writing if you are still liable for cs payments. Be prepared to do some chasing but if they drag their heels or get it wrong you are more likely to get a refund as you did your part and informed them of the changes in circumstance.
Good luck.0 -
The one the child has been doing is a government approved apprenticeship, but it comes to an end soon and it's likely that the 'child' encouraged by the mother will be taking a sideways step and starting another apprenticeship rather than a 'proper' job so that the mother does not lose her child benefit and CSA payments. Sadly this is not beneficial for the child's career path but is financially beneficial for the mother. Not surprisingly not much information is forthcoming from either the 'child' or the mother or the CSA (who have probably not been informed of any change of circumstances - the mother has a history of deceiving the CSA) so it's difficult to find out what the job actually is, and with the change in the upper age limit we could be paying for this 'child' until the age of 20 even though the child in question has been earning a wage for more than the last 12 months. Was hoping someone had been in a smilar situation.0
