CSA payments and 2nd year apprenticeship

If a dependant 'child' is over 18 and starts a second year apprenticeship I believe their pay increases from £2.65 to the minimum wage of £4.98 an hour so that 'child' will be earning in their own right approx £200 a week. Would they then be considered to be working and therefore maintenance is no longer payable, or are they still considered to be in education and therefore the maintenance should still be paid?
Has anyone any experience of this please?

I don't know, but look at it the other way, you don't have too long left to go, I think by the time I have to stop contributing the 15% won't be doing too much in my back pocket
, suppose it's halfway to a car

According to http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/keep-up-to-date/when-child-aged-16/further-education.htm they are no longer in education as they are being paid a wage and are in workThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Wish it was only 15% we are on CSA 1, and it's a bit more! Also as there is a younger child we have a way to go yet!!
I think the apprenticeship is some sort of NVQ so I think it counts as education and training, but was wondering that if a proper wage was being paid rather than an apprenticeship rate if it would make child benefit no longer payable and therefore CSA no longer payable.0 -
Are you on a private agreement or paying via the csa?0

Paying via CSA0

The apprenticeships that qualify for the child benefit, hence CSA, to continue are those listed in !!!!!!'s link
What type of training counts for Child Benefit?
You can get Child Benefit if your child is over 16 and is doing a course of 'approved' training. Your child needs to have started, enrolled or been accepted onto an unwaged approved course before their 19th birthday.
Approved courses are as follows:
- England - Foundation Learning Programmes (previously known as 'Entry to Employment'), or Access to Apprenticeships
Unless it is one of those listed then child benefit would have ceased and the child would no longer qualify0 -
Have you contacted the csa about your son being in a paid apprenticeship and what have they said?
Also the case for proving your son no longer lives with his mother becomes moot if he's being paid!0 -
if they are working over 24 hours a week then child benefit stops as does csa,
Taken from child benefit website -
https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit-16-19/your-child-leaves-education-or-training
Child Benefit stops straightaway if your child: starts paid work for 24 hours a week or more0 -
I think it's a bit of a grey area as it is still counted as education and training even though the child is being paid - the child in question has been working full time but on an apprenticeship earning about £100 a week for the last year and CB has still been paid making CSA still payable. I just wondered if this was limited to one year or whether the child can start a second apprenticeship but being over 18 I think would they then be paid the minimum wage which works out to about £200 a month. (and then now as the age has been raised to 20 whether they can do a third apprenticeship and still have their pay while the mother gets paid the CSA maintenance payments). -
I was hoping someone had been in a similar situation and could advise.0 -
as far as im aware to still claim child benefit (and thus csa is still payable ) the apprenticeships must be government approved such as a E2E (entry to employment course) or programme led apprenticeship.0
