Getting credit back from NPower

Hi

We have recently moved to a new house and changed gas suppliers.

In our final bill from NPower it came out as £903 in credit so we have clearly been overcharged for the last 3 years. However now NPower are really dragging their heals to pay it back and are even now saying they will have to investigate as is their policy for all credits over £500.

I have read quite a few articles online with people having similar issues with much higher and smaller amounts - That are owed to them - by NPower but which NPower are not paying back.

Any advice on how we might pursue this is much much appreciated!

thanks
Matt

  • Write to them asking for the credit back. If they do not deal with your complaint and keep fobbing you off you can go to the ombudsman

  • Hi don't have anything very useful to say except i'm in the exact same situation

Moved house 28th Sept. Closed the account and was informed I was 900+ in credit which I still haven't received.

I've recently contacted the ombudsman so i'll see what that brings.

May be missing something here, but do people not check their meter readings and notice when power companies are overcharging them

    ...or undercharging them !!

If people regularly checked their reads and gave this information to the companies supplying them the companies would have better data to estimate from ..and more importantly you as the customer are less likely to build up a nasty surprise bill or a huge credit sitting in the suppliers bank account !

Are the closing reads in this case actual reads by meter operators, customer reads or estimates and is it a change of tenancy or change of supplier situation?

Also the companies only have to read your meter once every two years and Npower send out bills every six months on DD accounts and receipt of bill payers get bills frequently. However most companies do give free numbers to give customer reads and allow for online reads so I fail to see how the OP has "clearly been overcharged for 3 years"
