hi all,
this might seem like a bit of a thicko question, but here goes....
I've installed AVG, Firefox, MS Antispyware, etc, following the good advice of some of the posters on here.
Problem is, when i now run a scan on AVG, and it tells me it's found a couple of infected files, I don't know what to do about it! It will open a box giving information about the infection, but I'm unclear about the next step.
Can anyone give some advice? I'd hate to think i've got the right protection in place but am not using it properly. Cheers.

Should have said that the same goes for Adaware, etc.0

AdAware - right-click on any of the items in the infected list, choose "Select all" and press "Next". That should remove the items listed (I assume, of course, that you wanted to remove them in the first place). AVG - never used, don't know.0

AVG puts them in the Virus vault if it cannot clean them, if the box is flashing up when the PC is running opt to clean them
if you are using Xp then you may need to run the PC is Safe Mode and run AVG to clean the infected filesEx forum ambassador

Once the files are in the AVG Vault, you can open vault from the AVG control Centre. There is an option there to delete the files in the vault.
Always try restarting your comp before deleting files from the vault, and make sure it is running the way it should. If so, it should be safe to delete all from the vault. If running XP, create a restore point, and ALWAYS backup important files (after scanning them of course).I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.
