I have recently tried to swap my gas supply from 'EDF' to
'EQUIGAS', but I have had a debt that I have been paying through
my card meter. I received a letter from 'edf' that I cannot
switch as I still owe a debt, I telephoned them and was told that
my meter had not been activated to take any debt off, so to my
dismay I have not been paying it at all for 12 months, I am
disabled and cannot see the face of my meter, so each week when I
put money on the card I place it in the meter and wait for the
'beep' and press the button assuming that some money is being
taken for the debt, which is £168. They offered to knock £40 from
the debt, but that still leaves me with money owing that I
assumed was being taken off, can anyone advise me as to what to
do??

It is clear that you cannot switch until you have paid off your debt. They have offered to knock £40 off the outstanding debt, so pay what you owe and get the meters changed to pre-payment meters when you switch, as a meter that you cannot see, is no use to you! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
