PC freezing

When I switch on my PC it shows "windows is starting up" and then it freezes. Is this a software problem or a problem with the PC? Any ideas on how to fix it?

can you get into Safe mode by hitting the F8 Key as the PC boots ??

is this XP ??

do you have an XP CD

what make /model PC ??

Broantoa, thanks for this. I got back in through the safe mode as you suggested. It is XP and it's a Medion computer.

I need further help. As advised by Browntoa I managed to restart my computer. But it is hit and miss if it freezes. Sometimes I can manage through the safe mode. At other times it won't work. I have windows Xp and a Medion computer. Is it the computer, the software, or the operating system? What do I do to sort this?

Next time you get into safe mode, goto my computer right click the C Drive and properties and then tools (tab) then check disk,

you may have scheduel it on restart,

now

start-> run "msconfig"
startup (tab)
untick all what you don't NEED

services (tab)
click Hide all microsoft services.
then disable all

now reboot

this should reboot your pc and scan the drive for errors and shouldn't loadn anything un-needed,

if something does got wrong just
start-> run "msconfig"
general (tab)
select normal and reboot
