hi, i purchased a 2007 mondeo 2.0 petrol from ford last year and opted for their hartwell warranty. i have been having trouble from my power steering (whining noise after so long of driven) so took the car in for inspection. they told me that the power steering pump had failed and was flaking bits off metal inside and that i now need a new pump and steering rack, which would all be covered under warranty. they also said it is recommended that i change 3 hoses as well but this isn't covered under warrenty ? surely because the pump failed and damaged the hoses then they should be covered ? just after some advice from anyone who has experiance on this please..

Hoses are not damaged they just recommend you change them.
Easier to change them than flush them properly. Thats all.
Its like them saying your tyres are 5mm i recommend you replace them. Even though the legal limit is 1.6mm and a lot of people say change them at 3mm because grip has been lost in wet conditions.
Doesnt mean you have to.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Your warranty covers the parts that have failed. The hoses haven't failed, but its a good idea to replace them while you are replacing other parts anyway.
When I had my cam belt changed the garage offered to change the water pump at the same time. Nothing wrong with it, but as it was already in pieces it was a good idea to change it as no extra labour costs, and the cost to fix it later if it did fail would have been far more than the extra 25 quid0 -
i wouldn't mind but been quoted 70+ quid +vat for each hose,, something i woulnd't have to pay for if my pump hadn't failed0

if you're concerned about the cost, ask them for the part numbers for each hose then phone another ford garage and find how much they are. or try the same with ford parts uk. obviously you'd have to factor in fitting but that shouldn't be a lot unless the hoses are inaccessible.0

Hoses are cheap, and your garage are (probably) doing you a favour. Most of the labour cost will be in getting the power steering pump out, which is being paid for under warranty. You're paying a little bit extra for 3 cheap hoses and avoiding paying the labour cost to replace them separately when they do fail.
Personally I'm just amazed that the warranty company is paying out on something.0 -
Power steering hose assemblies aren't particularly cheap. Could easily be £100.0
