Things were going OK there about the necessary checks Wham until you let us know you didn't understand why you're supposed to do regular checks. It's not that you expect to top up the oil, water and fluids because you have a chronic loss, it's to alert you that something has happened that you wouldn't be aware of until the system completely fails.
Please feel free to ignore this if it's a rental, lease or company car.0 -

Many people seem to think that a once yearly MOT is also a service so that is the only time their car ever sees a garage. The older it gets, the more likely this is.
Also stalling under braking is usually caused by something failing which is a service item, sparkplugs or deteriorating leads/coil packs because the spark plugs are worn for example. If it were a leaking servo they'd hear the noise.0 -
Sure, some people may say things in a way others don't - but all the same, whether or not you agree with the tone, I'd suggest the OP has realised some benefit from the comments.
I agree the OP has learnt something but the original comment from Splot was ridiculous. Clearly from the OP's comment about having to Google to find out what the warning lights were suggests a complete absence of knowledge on his/her part.
There is no need to be rude and it'll put people off using the forums. All that needed to be said was "you need to check your oil more than monthly" and even offer some advice on how to do it.
And as for the OP - I'd suggest buying a Haynes manual for your car (there may well be second hand ones on ebay cheap as your car is quite old now). They explain how to check oil, water, brake fluid and so on.0 -
When I first joined, after asking an innocent question, I was made out to be a scam artist and had all manner of insults aimed at me.
This forum is full of loathsome types who only want to get a cheap thrill off someone's bad experiences.0 -

I know someone that went faster because they were running out of fuel.. Put a conrod through the block.
Did they go faster so they would get to the garage before the fuel ran out? :rotfl:0 -

Given that the OP doesn't even know how old their car is I have my doubts about their ability to conduct even basic checks. Perhaps it would be worth locating a beginners motor mechanics evening class (if such a thing still exists) to learn what needs to be done and how to do it properly.0

Oooh let me help, here is a good guide,
Rules to make it a good place to be.
Please be nice to all MoneySavers : There's no such thing as a stupid question and, even if you disagree, courtesy helps.
Please be sensitive : This may be a web forum, but you're still talking to other human beings. Repeatedly or harshly saying someone's wrong can lead to upset.
Don't feed the trolls : Sadly the web has a habit of throwing up a very small but vocal number of trolls, people who are nasty or contrary just to get a rise out of you.0 -

I once picked a chap up from the M1 hard shoulder walking with a fuel can. "Ran out of petrol then?" I stupidly inquired, "No, but I thought I would start walking to get some before that happened". I drove on to the motorway services in silence trying not to pi$s my self laughing at this nutjob.0 -
OMG - anyone noticed the OP hasn't even commented for a while on their own thread?
I'm not surprised given some of the reponses. They're probably too busy laughing at all the arrogant, self righteous posters on here who know everything and never make a mistake.
Either that or they're out murdering people with their deathtrap of a car.
Why do so many threads on here end up with 2 or 3 pompous know-it-all regulars arguing amongst themselves, and with anyone else who dares to have an opinion?
You should be ashamed people.0
