Hi
Can anyone advise on which small cars are the cheapest to insure. I'm looking for cars for my mum and will also be using it to practise in. Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

Depends where you live and how old you are and lots and lots of other things.
There is no 1 car thats cheapest. 1 company will like little cars with tiny engines that are less than 1 year old. Another company may prefer big executive cars that are 20 years old.
The money it costs to insure for a year will pay for a LOT of lessons with a proper instructor.
You may get a cheap policy whilst a learner, But the minute you pass the test it may end or the premium may jump from £1000 to £3000.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Buy one of the motoring magazines that list 2nd hand values for cars, most will show the insurance group for each model.0

thank you.
I have had my 3rd test today and failed with two minors but an unfortunate bus meeting caused me to stop too close to parked car mirror while the bus didn't slow down or even attempt to make any way - just went speeding on down the narrow road with parked cars on either side.. .. Up until that point (2 mins from end of test) it was all perfect. Was very disappointed in myself as I gave way to everyone but he just didn't give me time to move into a space on the left after the parked car. Very frustrating so I don't have an issue with driving and the inspector also said he was gutted for me.. Couldn't give me any advice for next test as just one of those things that you can't prepare for.
Anyway, instructor doesn't want me to take any more lessons until the day of next test so want the car to practise in before then.Team PINK arrived 28/05/2010 8lb 9oz0 -

Makes no difference.
My current car is group 33 and a quote with the same insurer on a group 46 car that I was considering buying was a lot cheaper than my existing car.
Advice to OP is to do online quotes for any(all) small car that they would consider buying.0 -
Insurance groups and actual prices are two different things.
small cars used by boy races, such as corsa's can be astronomical to insure.Be happy...;)0 -
As above a group 1 car may cost more to insure that a group 10 car.
The groups only reflect the cost to replace a few items after a small bump. But doesnt take into account the number of claims for that type of vehicle.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
