Default with Halifax

Just need some advice with this one.
Ive had a default on my credit file for almost 6 years now. I had an overdraft facility with halifax and it was for a small amount of £100. Back then when all the banks were panicking due to the financial crisi which was unfolding and started withdrawing all loans they deemed risky. Well i was one of those and they withdrew my overdraft facility leaving me with an unauthorised overdraft facility (at the time i had no money in the account. So this was also a reason why they withdrew the facility)
Anyway I fully paid the amount off as soon as i was made aware and thought nothing of it.
About 6 months to a year ago I discovered how to effectively remove defaults. I had a couple on my credit file.
So i checked my credit file and found this default with the halifax. Now they never sent me a final warning letter stating that this account would go into default if i did not pay up within 30 days. It never even got that far I had a telephone call from the bank and i paid the full amount within 14 working days.
So i was surprised to know that they placed a default on my credit file. My understandment with defaults is that you have 30 days once a company withdraws a loan or credit agreement to pay the full amount. ???
Where I stand today. I have been complaining to them since september 2012 with regards to this matter. And they state that they have followed the correct proceedure despite the fact i never recieved a default notice and I had paid the full amount within 14 days of being notified by the bank.
Where do i go from here other than complaining to the Financial Ombudsman. And am I even right in what im saying.
Thanks
Billy

Halifax are not very helpful or nice. I too had a default from British Gas and I tried and tried to have it removed, they refused even though it's pretty easy for them to have it removed. The problem is companies can default you without giving you prior notice as they'll turn around and say to you, it's in your terms and conditions. I was frantic as I was looking to remortgage, I had been with Halifax for nearly 20 years, had a huge deposit but because of the default, they wouldn't even consider helping me. Thinking this was the case everywhere I went into meltdown, no need, everywhere else wanted my money and I got a remortgage no problem, so, a default on your credit rating won't necessarily stop you getting credit, loan, mortgage etc. You could try a begging letter to them, it might work, but my experience with Halifax is not a good one. I have to go the now so can't reply if you do, will check on here tomorrow.0

If its almost six years, why bother, it's about to drop off your file anyway.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Ok thanks for your help joons. I know its almost 6 years and i see your point why bother, but I have goal in mind and once I set myself a goal i just cant give up on it.
Once the six years is up do they just fall off or do you have to write to them and get it removed?0 -
They just fall off automatically, I think you have to give them
a month for it to happen.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Not necessarily automatically, depends on the company, you'll have to call them if it hasn't disappeared. Good luck!0
