eligability question for Jobseekers Allowance

My wife was laid off from her temp Xmas job from Asda on 2/1/13
signs for Jobseekers online on 8/1/13 going for the interview at the local jobcentre on 18/1/13.
My wife has been going for a few interviews in the meantime as her usual job is a head housekeeper.
She gets offered a job today BUT the purpose built Nursing home is still being built and her start date for her is 4/3/13 ( 7 weeks time)
Question I am asking is can she still claim Jobseekers allowance if she has got a job that starts in 7 weeks time, or will she have to keep looking for work for those 7 weeks??
If no then what benefit can she claim

It's job seekers allowance paid to customers seeking work. If she's not seeking work she will be sanctioned and lose benefit. She can not claim any other benefit....assuming she doesn't have young non school age children in which case it would be income support.

What is she supposed to live on then.
She has found work but its 7 weeks away.
Its not her fault it doesnt start for 7 weeks , why should she be penalised

Continue looking for work and she can claim JSA. She might find a better job or a temporary job for the next 7 weeks.

I am in the same position, i have recently claimed JSA which will be for 4-5 weeks but there is no problem in meeting the requirements.

As long as she is still applying for other jobs and doing her normal job search i don't see a problem.

She has 2-3 signing on dates to fulfill this criteria but it can be frustrating knowing it's a waste of time applying for jobs when she has a job to go to soon but it is the criteria of receiving the benefit.

Is it a waste of time? The nursing home is still being built - what happens if work stops, and the opening is delayed? You don't have a job until you walk in on your first day, lots can happen before that time, especially in the current climate (economic and weather!).

I do agree with you that it's not a waste of time, especially taking into consideration what could happen as you said, if you want the benefit you need to meet the criteria or suffer possible sanctions.

It may seem a waste of time and frustrating but....you need to meet the criteria of the particular benefit you are claiming.

If you can afford not to apply then don't, simple as......

Exactly right. Also are they waiting on references and PVG checks which can take some time?

If you're not prepared to support your wife for the next 7 weeks, then why should I and other tax payers fund her to have a 7 week holiday?

I will ignore that post, she has had 4 interviews and got a job in 7 weeks time, at least she has got a job soon.
Some people have never worked but dont let me stop you getting in a cheap shot with someone who is trying to find work
