Gas fire removal and installation of new one.

Hi,
Just had a quote for £550 to remove my two old gas fires and replace with new ones. Price does not include the fires or fitting the surrounds etc, purely taking the old out and putting new in. Seems a little high but haven't had anything like this done before so perhaps it is the going rate.
Thanks in advance

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

i think we maybe missing a deleted post here somewhere ?
i don't do fires but i'm sure rusty (or someone else that can give you the necessary advice) will be along at some stage to give you some adviceI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
We have a quote just now of £150 to put in a single gas stove. There is no existing fire but the supply is capped at the front. It will require two visits as the pipe needs moving before I can lay the hearth.
It shouldn't take much extra time to remove a fire compared to this - when I've looked at them they've all been pretty simple.
Our other quotes were £200+ so I think this chap really wanted the work - your quote seems like it might be a bit on the high side but not by much.0
