Scottish Power used incorrect readings

Hi please can someone help. I have just been advised by SP that they have read my meters incorrectly and that they will be back-dating my bills to claim this back. This works out at £12,000! This does not seem right as they have admitted under-charging me and not including one of the readings as they should have done. This will close my business.

£12000 over how long? I don't work for an energy company, but if you have accrued £12k in bills then the bills you must have been recieving were tiny and should have caused you suspicion.
Hold fire though as the big fish in this pond will tell you how to instegate the fight against the mighty energy companies.
However though you may 'win' you will still have to pay a proportion towards the energy you have used for at least the last 2 years or so.

  • sounds like yet another transposed eco 7 meters, or maybe the 4 dial versus 5 dial metric/imperial mess up. I see a lot of these and am convinced the occupiers are well aware of the lowly ammount they are paying is due to a meter reading error and just go along with the suppliers billing. I ve even spotted stopped electric meters where they do absolutely nothing about it at all. OP you will proberbly end up in having the bill dropped in the end as the suppliers dont seem to have much stomach for a fight. A recent one I was involved in with was with a small business incorrectly billed with an eco 7 meter for years. The merest hint of a solicitors letter to British Gas soon made them drop their several thousand pounds demand completely.
