Thanks to all.
When I connect the shuffle I can now see the playlist on the shuffle - I think I couldn't before cos the shuffle wasn't fully charged. I'm happy with that.
It would be nice to be aple to copy the playlist from the shuffle to I-Tunes but it doesn't look like I can so it will be a question of ripping all the CDs again. Not ideal, but OK.
Lesson learnt re backing up.................0 -
If you could get the hard drive out of the old pc and stick it in a caddy then no need to re rip the cd's again.0

Thanks, that has been suggested, but as I have said I have no clue how to do this. I have a friend at work who has offered to take a look, I may take him up on that.
TBH, I have no problem ripping them all again, I was more worried when the shuffles weren't recognised by the laptop.0 -

It's reading threads like this that makes me very glad that I don't have iTunes or even an iPod. Compare and contrast with the Creative Zen procedure just using windows
- Open two windows on new PC, one the Zen and another where you want the music to go.
- Drag and drop from Zen folder to the Music folder

Ive yet to find an MP3 player with the product integration(eg in my case car stereos) or the feature I like on my classic
A decent remote
I use the radio remote on the classic at work, gym,on runs etc and wouldnt want anything else
Im no apple fan but for me the ipod classic fits the bill for me
I like the integration of my podcasts simply updating etc
I will admit itunes can be a bit of a pain but once you know it,then its little issue0
