Utis and thongs!

Options
Having a bit of a blarney with the DD, she has had recurrent utis and antibiotics work only short time till the next one, maybe a few moths later.she is not sensitive to three different antibiotics already.
It is e.coli from the culture.
Now, the nurse suggested not wearing thongs. Her fave type of underwear. She has a large posterior and they do suit her very well, no VPL etc! However she refuses to budge over this as she says no other style will suit her and will show up and so on.
Has anyone else had a similar problem, wear you a. Thong wearer and did ditching the thong help?!
any advice really would be helpful thank you. I have got something called D Mannose , it's a sugar which is supposed to bind to the bugs and they get flushed out. She will start that later today.ever heard of it?

My mum worked in a medical centre and said they did see women with thong-related problems fairly regularly. I suspect if someone is prone to getting infections they are not the best undies. I think fit is important as well. I know my mum said there was one woman who was constantly coming in with infections and the GP eventually spotted that the style of thong she favoured moved about a lot so the bit that went near her bum hole kept moving forward.

Lol! I've done it myself in the dim and distant past but more for fun than health! Sadly with the fashion for leggings or tights I think she's going to need something to keep the chaffing at bay!

  • You can buy 'vpl' free/seam free pants from M&S amongst other places. I also think as she gets older she may well grow out of wearing them... I used to wear them all the time, but realised that actually proper pants are much more comfy!! (I'm 27!) Plus I used to get infections quite a lot, last year I was uncomfortable for about 8 months so reverted to wearing my cotton pants as often as possible and it has definitely helped.

ETA I don't wear leggings without a top/jumper that covers my bum anyway so it doesn't matter all that much.

Only two years till she comes to her senses then! Tbh I am a bit worried about it all.
I think she should be trying all the decent advice she gets.
She likes smooth jersey dresses and VPL is a no no I concede.
I am hoping the d mannose will be a good treatment. I don't think it will be harmfull anyway.i have also got a good probiotic supplement to sort out the antib effects.

If she really wants to keep wearing thongs she could maybe try using hypoallergenic feminine wipes during the day to try to keep the area very clean and try to prevent germs being transmitted from the bowel?

I do sympathise, I suffer with water infections and they're really unpleasant. If it were me I would ditch the thongs!

  • I wear seamfree microfibre boy cut shorts and they're great, am size 14 so not slim.

I got repeated UTIs when I wore fashion thongs though. If she's determined to keep the thongs, how about plain cotton?

    Maybe suggest boy shorts instead?

My ex used to get a similar problem occasionally. She solved it by wearing a frock or skirt and going 'commando'.

Edit: She also swapped tights for traditional stockings.
