Great tips eveyone!Broomstick wrote: »(One day, a sensible washing machine manufacturer will think to put an alarm on the machine itself.)
Mine is a siemens and beeps repeatedly when finished. Going strong after 6 years and has a delayed start function which is great - can put it on at night to finish in the morning so the washing won't sit there for hours getting all creased.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

I would look at how long things are worn for.
Theres no reason why jumpers, and trousers sholdn't be worn more than once, as long as they get nothing sticky on them. In the winter I often wear t-shirts under blouses, which mean that as long as I don't spill anything down it, the shirts can be worn again.
Towels can be used for a couple of days if they're hung up to air properly as well (doesn't work so well if they're in a heap on the floor )
I feel for you, it is endless.0 -
theres 4 of us and it feels never ending and all ill say is, i use the 30 min cycle a lot now and i only use an egg cup of powder
as son has sensititve skin and clothes are clean,
ive an indoor line that is up in night and that cuts down on td,
ive a son with asthma and research said not to dry washing in house so i try not to have it hanging around:A :j0 -

I never get on top of the washing, there is 4 of us but loads to wash due to all the sports and activities they do!
I aim to do a load a day, most days I do 2, god knows when I will fit in the bedding! I know that not putting a new load on till the first load is washed, dried and put away is ideal but I never seem to practise what I preach and end up with piles of clean clothes to put away at bedtime yaaaawwnn
My washing machine has a delay timer which I set to start at about 7 so it's ready to get out to dry when I am ready in the mornings.....oh and mine beeps too0 -
Reboot washer is the first chore of the morning here and after breakfast or when going upstairs take yesterdays washing off the several clothes horse's with me.
We all learn to wash daily or it builds up.
I put the washing on the line if weather is ok. I have had it out several times in January. I know, comes in half dry. Better than totally wet.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
i put the machine on when i get home from work around 5pm. i always hang it up before i go to bed, and unless its big jumpers, its dry for the morning, i fold them into a basket whilst we have breakfast. put away when i get home from work.
thier is only 2 of us, so piles of washing shouldnt be an issue, but if im haveing a lazy week ill leave it til i can be bothered and then it looks like their are 10 of us! my washing piles get seperated into - jammies/sheets/towels 40* wash with lavendar/teatree... everything else is mostly a quick wash in whites or coloured or dark... unless someting is really dirty.
i do check sons clothes and not put in pile if not dirty and doesnt smell. same goes for mine (no longer spray perfume on unless i am naked/in underwear for this reason). when i stayed at my parents their was 5 adults and 1 child, and this is same as what i did then, although if i was having a lazy week, my mum would do it whilst i was at work for me to hang up when i got home.Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

We re just a family of four, but due o watching the pennies and especially the electric pre payment meter I have strictly agreed to myself to only wash clothes on a mon, wed and fri in the evening after school and when dh comes home from work on a timesaver mode again o save money as it cuts 1 hr off the time and allows me time before going to bed to put it all on the airers.
If I don't have enough whites or colours they wait till the next wash day when their is enough. It seems to be working well.Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j
