Pull cord for bathroom light & extractor fan
I don't understand why..............but when the cord is pulled, the fan works immediately but there is a delay (several seconds) before the light goes on.
Could anyone tell me how much it will cost to get an electrician to replace the pull cord for the bathroom light and extractor fan please?
Thanks
Nile

This actually happens in our bathroom, but the light is an energy saving bulb and it's just rrrreeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy slow at coming onWealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0

We don't have an energy saving lightbulb in the bathroom so that isn't a reason for our situation.;)
I hope someone will give me an idea of the cost of calling in an electrician.
Thanks

I understand the situation but for the life of me, I don't understand your issue.
How much would you want to pay for the 2 second delay to be cured?????????????I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
must be the last light on the circuit so the electricity is slower and weaker at that point. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0

I can't see many electricians being bothered to come and replace a pull cord. I used to advertise "no job too small", but I am not sure that I would have bothered for that.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

The problem is.............the several seconds is increasing (the delay is getting worse) each day.
I'm now at a situation where when I pull the cord, the extractor fan is on immediately..................and the light doesn't come at all.:(
It is not a faulty light bulb because I took the bulb out and tested the bulb in another light fitting and it works perfectly.
I appreciate that it seems a minor problem to some of you and that an electrician wouldn't be interested in doing such a small job but where does that leave me?
I can't attempt the job myself. Am I doomed to a dark bathroom for ever more?:( Can anyone help please?
I might not have explained things very well but I'm happy to have all the gubbings renewed..............the pull cord.........the gubbings the cord is attached to and the light fitting thingie. I don't know the correct terms for all the bits but you'll hopefully get the idea.
Would that still be too small a job for an electrician to consider?

Check if the light bulb is a low-voltage (12V) one- it may be a transformer problem.
An electrician will of course come and look for you, but it's going to cost much more than its worth to fix.
In the meantime, those "Mr Beam" things are £10 on amazon and are brilliant :-)0 -

When you pull the cord, does the light switch at the top of the cord make a distinct, 'healthy' click?"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."
