NCD for insurance - some insurers only use 6 years others 9?
I've never lost my no claims. Couple of accidents but each time no claims has been protected.
Trying to get new insurance now. New insurer uses no claims up to 9 years but old insurer only uses 6 years as max. Thus, any no claims proof they send me will only show 6 years. Seems its £50 difference between 6 years and 9 years :-(
Is there any way to prove to new insurer?

I've never found it an issue. I think they either have a way to check it through the MIB or anything over 6 years makes so little difference to the policy you wouldn't notice.0

Send them the renewal notice from the insurer before last which shows that you had more than 6 years at that point, as well as the one from the current insurer showing you've had no claims since then.0

But if you do the comparison websites. Why are some companies cheaper with 3 years no claims than some companies with 6 years no claims.
Stick what you have on the current renewal and phone them to say you actually have xx years and you have contacted the previous company and awaiting a reply. You feel they stole xx years off you.
Probably make zero difference and may actually increase the premium, Because insurance never makes sense anyway.
Maybe 6 years no claims is good but 15 is bad because they assume you must be close to making a claim soon?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
6 years is an odd number, most max out at 5 years
What was on last years proof of NCD? If it was 8 year plus then speak to your current insurers and ask if they can raise a "corrected" proof of NCD to reflect what you brought to them, most of them will.
If they wont or your last years one was only 5 years too then speak to your new insurers, it is a common problem as counting anything above 5 years relatively new (and mainly marketing spin as some give more discount for Max 5 then others do for Max 9 let alone 6 to 8 years) and they undoubtably will be coming across this issue many times. Do this BEFORE buying!0 -
Been googling this and it seems to be a bit of a problem...
One guy had 20 years NCD and then changed insurers. Because new insurers only recognised up to 5 years as max when he went to change again he could only get proof for 5 years.
Insurance is just nuts the way they do it.
Just checked my current schedule and it does say 9 on it (I though it said 6) so I won't be happy if they send me proof of just 6.
I can't find previous one before that but I've got an email from current insurer saying they have recieved my proof of no claims (and like I saif the schedule says 9 so they have agreed to that)Cymru am Byth !!! :j:j:j0
