Can i change Utility providers when getting new flat?

Im due to move into my first flat on Friday. Having never done this before, can i find the company of my choose - e.g the cheapest, and switch to them when i complete the sell and then cancel the old suppliers?

Sure, however changing suppliers - despite what the door-to-door salesman would have you think - is somewhat prone to error and confusion as it stands (i.e. receiving bills from both companies!!)

I would strongly recommend just putting your name against whatever accounts are in place (as normally happens), and then wait until you have received the first bill in your name before switching supplier...

Yes - I've just done this: I sent my readings to British Gas (who supplied dual fuel), got my first bill, and then went to Uswitch.com

    It should take about 6weeks.
